Visit local places

There are many attractive villages and towns close to Clough Head Cottage, from the nearby village of Longnor with its cobbled market place to the smart spa town of Buxton with its Opera House, Pavilion Gardens and much more.

You can use the videos on this page to explore a few of our favourites.

The village is very picturesque and easy to explore. There is much to enjoy, from all day breakfasts at Cobbles Café, to tasty snacks and fine local crafts in the Craft Centre in the old Market Hall, to the finest fish and chips we have tasted at the Manifold Tea Rooms, to contrasting pub experiences at the Grapes and the Cheshire Cheese. There are also the General Stores and the Post Office that provide for most needs, as well as tempting tastes!

Buxton is an easy 15-20 minute journey from Clough Head Cottage. The Pavilion Gardens, Pump House and the Crescent show off Buxton as one of the finest Spa towns in the country and are a must. Buxton has a good mixture of shops from supermarkets to craft shops, catering for browsing tourists and local residents, up-market or thrifty.

There is also a very good range of eating places, which are worth sampling.

The ‘Visit Buxton‘ website is a good place to start for information. There is an excellent guide to Buxton, which we keep a copy of in the cottage and which is available from a number of sites in the town. You can view an online version here (there is a handy map of Buxton on pages 24-25 (page 13 of the online version)): Buxton Guide
